How to take care of your wedding album

As a wedding photographer and someone who loves making wedding albums for my couples, caring for a wedding album is equally as important as owning one. I work with a few album labs closely and here are some ways to take good care of your wedding album.

1. Keeping out of direct sunlight

I suggest keeping your wedding album away from bright lighting or direct sunlightZ Storing your album in its case or box is the best way to do so.

2. Laying album flat

Your wedding album is best stored face up in a lay flat position on a clean and flat surface, rather than standing up right. This will ensure that there is no excess stress on the spine of the binding.

3. Keep in mind of nature elements

It is important to keep your album away from extreme heat, direct sunlight, moisture and humidity. It prevents warping of the cover and pages. Keeping it in the dark is ideal for preserving the individual spreads in your album or otherwise at room temperature with low humidity.

4. Best way to view album

The best way to view your wedding album is to rest the back cover on a clean flat table surface or on your lap while always supporting the front cover with your left hand as you flip the pages of the album. This is to prevent bends and rips due to the heavy weight of the page block.

5. Handling

Always handle your wedding album with clean hands and avoid using your nails to turn the pages.

6. Cleaning

Most food or drink spills should be wiped off as quickly as possible using a dry cloth. Use a dry, soft, lint-free cloth to wipe away any dust and finger prints.

7. Accidental damage

In the event of any accidental damage to your album, please contact me. I’ll do my best to see how can I assist.

8. Care card

A care card is included in your album as well.

Hopefully this helps you to preserve your wedding album and to pass it down to future generations. If you have yet to own your wedding album and are thinking of doing so, let’s work on yours together!
